Kate and her friend Sierra hard at play!

We had a wonderful Christmas!

It was so much fun to see Kate getting excited about Christmas! We have an advent calendar house that we can put candy/etc. in, and she did very good with her numbers as the days went by!

Christmas morning was fun as we had a 3-story dollhouse and Sleeping Beauty vanity assembled for Kate when she got up in the morning. It was wonderful! She's also received a bunch of new dress-up items, and is always very embellished! Kevin's parents stayed over Christmas Eve and we had a great visit with them. We got to play our favorite game - Mexican Train (dominoes). Santa brought Margaret a Wii, and had great fun playing tennis and bowling. It's a blast! Even Dora is much fun!

Kevin and also his brother Pat received gift certificates for indoor skydiving. Stay tuned for details on that! Should be interesting.

Christmas was also made much richer as Kevin is settling in to his new job and likes it very much. Such a blessing.

Santa Pic

This pic took the promise of ice cream to get the smile!

We had fun putting up the Christmas tree today - Kate really got into it this year, and had fun hanging the ornaments. When we were done she wanted to "do again!". Later, she wanted to pose in her Sleeping Beauty dress in front of the tree.

November happenings ....

Kevin has spent most of the month looking for a new job since being part of a layoff at Sonic Solutions. As the month closes, he's expecting an offer. More later on that.

Kate got her ears pierced this month - she walks around smiling and saying "earrings"!

We will be having Thanksgiving with the Mackey family at Pat & Karen's house. The day afterward we're planning to do the traditional trek through SF to check out the lights and displays, and see the tree-lighting ceremony at Union Square.

Kate is loving her princess dresses. She was recently given the Sleeping Beauty dress from her cousin Fiona, and she wears that almost every day (when she's not wearing the Snow White dress!).

We're getting into the holiday spirit and looking forward to a fun Christmas!! We've pulled out the decorations and will have the advent house that Grandma and Grandpa bought for Kate last year ready to go on the first of December!

While Daddy was not at home, Kate wanted to wear the pirate patch and hat that Kevin will be using for Halloween. Don't worry - Kevin will not be wearing the purple skirt.

More from San Diego.....

Here's a pic from Sea World. We all had a great time and Kate got to feed the dolphins. She also really liked the big black and white dolphin (Corky the whale).

If you get a chance, ask Kevin about he and his dad sailing on (and steering!) the America's Cup boat Abracadabra. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Sunny San Diego

We just got back from a great week in San Diego!

We enjoyed the Wild Animal Park, 3 separate trips to Sea World, and a wonderful time at the Beach and Belmont Park! Kate had a blast, and more sugar than I care to think about!

What's up this week....

Kevin had his stitches out today, and his foot is doing well.

Kate had her first week of preschool, and has acclimated wonderfully. Her class has 17 kids in it (with a total of of ~30 in the whole school). She now goes 3 days a week for 2-1/2 hours.

Attached is a picture of Kate and her friend Sierra at Chuck E. Cheese from earlier this month. Kate loves these climbing things and is fearless in going all through them and down the slides!

Mackey Made Handcrafts blog

Hi y'all -

I have created a blog for my business as well. It can be found at

Let me know what you think!

Kevin's Tomales Bay Sailing Trophies

Kevin came back from the Tomales Bay sailing regatta with two trophies - one for coming in second place overall in his class. The second "trophy" is a 5" scar in the shape of a boomerang on the top of his foot that is currently showcasing 14 stitches. He dropped a dead tree limb on his sandaled foot.

The adventure part comes in as Tomales is a regatta where they sail over to the beach and set up camp. So when Kevin was injured, he had to have the boat motored across the bay to where the car was, then back to the beach as they forgot the car keys, then back across the bay again! The drove to the nearby town of Marshall and were met by an ambulance that took him to the emergency room in Petaluma.

Many thanks to his dad, Howard, for all the sailing, driving and motoring all around the north bay so Kevin could get help.

Amazing that he came in 2nd place with all this going on! Also, two other boats in their races capsized, so Kevin was lucky he wasn't one of them.

Summer 2008

As we're getting into the end of August, we're gearing up for the new school year. While this might be mundane for some people, for us, it's a thrill. After waiting so long for this type of experience, it's great.

Kate will be in the 3's class at Milpitas Parents' Preschool. She was there last year in the 2's class. Margaret will be very busy as she will also be the 3's class rep (and board member), and coordinating the class at the parent participation school.

Kevin is getting ready to head to Tomales Bay with the SF Fleet 1 Pelican group for the annual regatta over Labor Day. He and his dad Howard will be going. As this is a "boat to the campsite" excursion, Mom and Kate will be staying home and enjoying air conditioning and shopping malls! For those of you who aren't up to speed with Kevin's sailing, he is the Fleet Commodore this year, and his dad is the Race Chairman (who sets the courses and runs the races).
