| Reading the paper on Thursday morning. |
He is still getting around okay, and we got him a new fancy-schmancy walker that he will be able to use and take breaks and sit down. We also got him a light / magnifier (next to him in the picture), so he can read and do puzzles, etc. We know he misses reading the newspaper, so hopefully this will help.
His hearing has worsened and sometimes the hearing aids do not help. His fingers do not have the dexterity to change the batteries easily or to put them in correctly. We got him a machine that helps clean them overnight, which does okay (when it is used). Kevin and I both use apps on our phones that writes in big text so we can make sure he understands us.
He does not converse much. This is probably because of the hearing, but also because his memory is not sharp. He has asked us several times what day it is, and when Kevin picked him up on the 21st, he asked Kevin if it was Christmas Day.
I had to laugh as we were having Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve. I cooked a spiral ham, roasted potatoes, green beans and rolls. He had plenty of all except the green beans, which he pointedly declined.
We plan to have him here through New Years, and will take him again to Dave and Busters for their family NYE party (4-7pm).
We are also hoping to get a chance to talk with him about assisted living, which is something we all feel is now necessary.
